I Love Coaching!!!

Written May 25th, 2017

I guess I have been coaching for almost as long as I have been running. My first "coaching" experience was in 8th grade, when I mentored/coached 7th grader Alfredo to beat my 7th grade school record I had broken the year before. I did not realize it at the time, but I think a lot of my own success through the years as an athlete has come through helping and working with others. Of course early on and in high school I was a little rebellious and cocky, more to push others to push me. I have always valued learning, working with others and passing my experiences on.

Gosh the memories I have through- summer track, high school track and cross country, coaching soccer, working with elementary schools on this and that, college triathlon, corporate and local running and tri groups, seeing stores and other professionals come and go... It just seems like my whole life has been learning, working with others and passing it on, and I love it!

I have been told I am a little intimidating, because of what I have done in my athletic career, or "I can't run with you, you are too fast". Honestly, I love working and teaching people from the ground up. People with fears or physical challenges, let's overcome them together! I love working with kids, because I was a kid when I started and I want to teach them how to love being active and achieving what they never thought possible!

The athletes I have been working with lately are simply amazing. The thing is, I also learn from and get inspired by them. The best is when they accomplish or surpass their goals. That is what really gets me excited and wanting to see what we can do next!

Statistically, having a coach not only benefits your performance, but also decreases your chance of injury or burnout and also gives you a better experience in your journey. Is it time for you to get a coach?
